Beyond Cute

Yesterday I was sitting on the couch when Riley brought me a teddy bear. She told me that she thought I needed someone to snuggle with when she wasn't around. We talked about the bear and thought up names. Then she went away. Last night, after a long day, I got home around 10pm. I went upstairs to my room and saw this.

She had placed this bear just perfectly on my pillow for when she was not around. Now that's what I call cute.

Child Like Faith

Three things happened yesterday that reminded me how simple faith can be. My kids never cease to amaze me in their understanding of the love of God, faith, forgiveness and prayer. They are my heroes! Here's how:
1. Riley and I had been out all day on what I was planning on as a day at home. We were in the toy store on Main Street in Franklin looking for something. I really wanted to ask the lady behind the counter but she was on the phone....for a long time! Then Riley told me she had to go to the bathroom. So we left. We continued on in our errands. A little while later I checked my voicemail and there was a message from the woman at the toy store. She recognized Riley from her preschool and apologized for being on the phone. She said if we were still in the area to stop by so she could see Riley. Riley REALLY wanted to go back to say hi, but I was tired and it was getting close to the time for the bus to come. So I told Riley we would drive by and if there was a good parking space (not a small feat on Main Street), we could stop. I casually said "Just pray for a good spot". So Riley IMMEDIATELY broke out in prayer. And it was a good prayer. Praising God for our day and asking for a parking spot just for us to keep us safe and allow us to see Miss Amanda. I pulled onto Main Street and lo and behold, the first spot was open. No surprise to Riley!
2. I ended up with a killer migraine last night. So as I was confined to bed, the kids came to visit me before their bedtime. JP was telling them the story of Ruth. He had spent over 10 hours on Monday preparing an extensive lesson on the book of Ruth. So he was going into all kinds of details (of which I assumed were being missed by the kids). He got to the part where Ruth uncovered Boaz's feet and then Boaz covered Ruth with his cloak. He told the kids that meant that Boaz was Ruth's kinsman redeemer, that he would always protect her. Riley looked up and said "Just like God, huh?" JP and I were both speechless.
3. After the Bible story, it was time for prayers. A few weeks ago JP and I went to a talk by a representative of Voice of the Martyrs. It is an organization working to help the persecuted church. They have a kids magazine that I read to the kids a few weeks ago. It talked about the persecuted Christians in Columbia and the FARQ Guerrillas. Heavy concepts for two kids. And we have not talked much about them since. But John Mark continues to pray for the people of Columbia. And last night, his prayer was "Let the FARQ Guerrillas turn to you Lord". Again, speechless.
Hope you encounter some child-like faith today...it is such a blessing.
